hello everyone you might already know me from my gofundme to get a survival + relocation fund after my ex girlfriend kicked me into the street and won’t let me go back to get any of my stuff

the response was more than i ever could’ve imagined. the funds pouring in are extremely generous. i am truly humbled that so many people would dig so deeply to help someone they might not know at all.

however, it will still take 3-5 business days to receive that gofundme cash. and money is FAR from the only problem

with that in mind, i want to talk about my current situation as of today.

at the moment i am still stuck in a homeless shelter waiting for some kind of communication about how i can recover my belongings. my ex girlfriend refuses all direct communication so far, and i still don’t have a social worker or legal advocacy of any kind

life in the shelter is having an extremely negative effect on my health that can’t be resolved by financial aid alone.

it is scary and unsafe here, i have to live in a room with a guy who is trying to muscle in on all my stuff (food and drink, phone connection) and trying to get me to do stuff i don’t want to do, like eat cold food he found in the garbage. loud sounds continuously keep me awake. with earplugs in i have nightmares. the stress reaction has ruined my appetite so badly i struggle to produce saliva or to swallow solid food.

Request 1: better shelter

anyone in the netherlands, particularly in the nijmegen area, i have to beg you for a safe couch to sleep on for a short period of time.

i do not drink or use drugs. i have no criminal record. i only ask for a safe sleeping place and to use your shower. i have my own shampoo, deodorant, etc. i can afford to feed myself now.

i don’t want to be there except to sleep and bathe, and perhaps to charge my phone. not to be a mooch or to take advantage of anyone’s kindness.

Request 2: legal advice or representation

i can’t afford to hire a lawyer. but please, i would like someone with legal expertise to help me, even if it is just an explanation of the law as it applies to my situation.

what would really be out of this world would be some kind of pro-bono representation to talk to the police and my ex girlfriend on my behalf. the police refuse to speak to me or to explain exactly how they consider the situation.

i have been threatened with arrest for going to the police station and asking how to proceed! they refused to tell me what crime i would be charged with.

right now as i type this it is 4:03 am. i slept from approximately midnight to 2am. that is the first and only sleep in 3 days.

i won’t be able to survive here long enough to get back what is mine without some tangible help in these ways.

thank you for reading this

Seconding contacting your embassy. You should be able to get consular assistance in speaking to the police and filing a report as to your stolen documents and stuff.

I'm sorry you're in this situation. :(

Have you considered an AirBnB or hostel to get you out of there for a couple of evenings?

Man, that sounds super rough. :( I'm a native Dutch speaker who happens to live an hour from Nijmegen, so please reach out on mrhands31 (at) gmail if you need help navigating the Dutch bureaucracy or if you can't find a better place to stay. I hope you land on your feet!

hi mr hands i love your video

Ok so i actually just got on a train to stay for a little bit at the house of a friend of a friend. they’re quite far from nijmegen, which is difficult but manageable.

however, depending on how the next week or so goes with trying to get my stuff, i might need to spend a night or too back closer to home.

so with that in mind my telegram is @knives_are_cool. i’d love to keep in contact in case i need your help. thank you

Thank you, I have a newsletter now. <3

Good to hear that you're sorted for the next few days at least.

And yes, let's stay in touch. I guess this is finally a good reason for me to download this newfangled "Telegram" app!

Please take this with a grain of salt, but in the US you can contact local police to go with you to take your personal belongings back from anyone who is holding them from you. Perhaps the same can be done in the netherlands
