I start the music, I put it in my pocket. At any point between one second and three minutes, it pauses. I have to take it out of my pocket and hit play. Turn the cycle repeats.
It does not matter what player app.

I should probably just go back to cassettes.
probably what google recommended, but Apps > [mp3 app] > App battery usage > Unrestricted fixed it for me, and it seems to still exist for my android 14 at least

i zhink my phone gets as close to stock android as possible, so i wonder if you got a vendor-specific change to get rid of it?
