lol one of my profs did some eigenface work for his thesis, because he figured that it'd never see military use

And now we have twenty billion pictures as ground truth and it still doesn't work but in much more subtle and dangerous ways
The Utah teapot was by itself actually a pretty major accomplishment in a bunch of ways. :)
