I just realized that there's a Korean company that does a similar schtick called No Brand and they also use a simple yellow. Hmmm.
It's probably inspired by Loblaw's no name! They weren't the first but they are the best known. There's a 99 Percent Invisible episode on no name that goes into the history of "no-brand brands".
