More folks should engage with animism as a serious way of understanding the world and not just as a form of spirituality. Respecting the whole cow that is used to make your boots and your dinner is much more valuable, I think, than replacing it with plastic. I've noticed I buy less cheap shit, consider food more, and empathize with others a lot more than I did before I was introduced to animistic worldviews. It also has helped develop my advocacy for degrowth, for habitat and forest maintenance, and solidarity with indigenous peoples and lifeways. Speaking for me, when I can see myself in the suffering of the earthly world and the lives that maintain it, understanding to some length how it all comes together with me and the folks and communities I love, the fight for climate justice and a death to the system that profits from suffering becomes far more personal and real.
this is what i love about animism, and why i am always trying to animism-pill my friends. it's not just a spiritually fulfilling way of looking at the world (though it absolutely is the most spiritually fulfilled i've ever felt), it's an entire ethical framework with profound implications for everything from right-to-repair to food systems to art to politics
