Magic can have many negative effects on the body, especially when used so often for combat. Most grow physically fragile at a young age. They have to retire early. Live quietly with their friends and family. Others start losing their ability to see, hear, or taste. Life can become a bit less dimensional for them, but many continue to fight for the things they believe in.
Gra-hmmm. Grace? Knows that neither of those things has happened to her. She was as strong as ever. She just stopped a runaway train after all. All her senses still functioned at their best. Better than ever even. No. Magic had taken a different toll on her.
She thinks it started much earlier. Maybe with smaller things? Where her keys were. What time she started work. Her favorite bird. Then it got worse. She was sure that last week she’d forgotten her address and her girlfriend’s name.
Now…
Now she was looking at this kid. A crowd huddled around him waiting for an answer. Who was she? What was her name? Her real name. Not the persona that she assumed when she was in this frilly turquoise dress. She knew that one. How old was she again? If not when she was born, why couldn’t she at least remember where she was born?
This was getting out of hand. She knew. She knew that she had a life outside of this. But no matter how hard she tried, Miss Evergreen Love couldn’t recall any of it. Well. No matter. That would be a problem for another time. She could already hear cries for help from across the city. Those were more important.
“I am Miss Evergreen Love! Protector of your hearts and wellbeing! Remember. Whenever you need help from above, call for Miss Evergreen Love!”
She swooped into a pirouette before fluttering off towards the pleas she’d heard before.
Underneath her she heard a man whispering to his friend, “she really is so pretty and graceful. I wonder if she’s single.” Well, maybe Grace wasn’t her name then. Either way, she was pretty sure that she wasn’t interested. In fact, she thinks she might be a lesbian. Cool. It’s good that she figured that one out.
