Occasionally, online, I see someone who's really bitterly discouraged by a lack of audience — which is understandable — but, like,

they've never actually done the thing.

"Here's my account for posting my early worldbuilding notes for the really cool thing I'm going to make one day!" isn't — look, the map is not the territory, the notes for your cool thing are not the cool thing. They probably aren't sufficient for anyone but you to even tell why it's cool, that's why you have to...actually...make...the thing. Trying to get people to care comes after making the thing. When you can show them the thing? You know? As evidence? That it's cool?

It helps to be a fan of your own work, but you can't simply be a fandom for it, you have to do it.
