tagging isn't zero-effort btw. it takes time and thought. maybe only a little bit, for one post, for your particular thing. but it does take some amount of work. and if you want people to do work on your behalf, telling them it's actually not work at all is probably not a recipe for success

When nobody can agree on a standard tag for a single topic, there's already an added element of effort.
Does "sonic oc" or "sonic ocs" get more traction? Does "sonic ocs" work for a single character in the category of OCs, or is it meant for multiple OCs in one post? Should you spend an extra 2 minutes just browsing those tags, to get a feel for how other people use them?
Related to this: I once had someone on tumblr object to me tagging their art as "furry" (it featured an anthro character), because the character didn't have any fur.
I'm glad that Cohost in the least has a "recently used tags" box. It doesn't help for older posts where I'm trying to remember if I've used certain tags at all, and if I've posted a bunch about X thing it shoves everything else wayside, but...
... maybe we need a "most used tags" box too. I guess that's what pinned tags are for, but I find that better for larger categories than for all the tags I'm likely to use.
