Have you heard of mycorrhizal fungi? Well... Now's the best time to learn!
Hugging the roots of crops and trees, nestled inside their cells, and emerging from the surrounding soil, mycorrhizal fungi are present in over 90% of the plant life we have on Earth, and may even be the reason why we have plants in the first place.
MF typically form mutualistic (helpful for both parties) relationships with plants. The MF will use their tiny, far-reaching hyphae to seek out and acquire nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus that their partners may not be able to reach, and in turn the plants will share some of their products of photosynthesis. Sounds sweet to me!
Next time you stop to smell the flowers, eat some delicious veggies, or have a nice cup of tea (or coffee!), take a moment to appreciate all the hard work our fungal friends do. :โข)
Both the design and patch are made by me, but I took heavy inspiration from the works of @/byjacobparis on Instagram. Support a small artist and go appreciate his art!
