21: Lantern

The concept of having a sword that doubled as a lantern was maybe one of the first and most basic enchantments anyone came up with. “Boy, it sure seems to be dark here,” the first wizard had thought, “I should have brought a torch or a lantern or something instead of this dumb fucking sword that I can’t even use particularly well because I am a wizard and just use magic to solve all my problems. Oh wait, I can just enchant this sword to light up and solve my problem. Good going, magic!”

Because all wizards cannot help but blab about everything they do, obviously once this wizard had the chance he told everybody about his cool new lantern sword spell. As soon as one wizard talked about it, other wizards rushed to claim that actually, they’d come up with it ages ago, they just thought it was such an obvious idea they didn’t bother to tell anyone. This led to a few wizard duels, because if there was one thing wizards liked more than bragging about their accomplishments it was dueling each other over any perceived slights.

Really, the best thing we ever did was go to war with them.
