Then again, given the plethora of amateur gamedev studios for the amiga (like the much-despised Shoot Em Up Construction Kit that plagued public domain software libraries with floods of nigh-identical subpar shooters) I shouldn't be surprised that a dedicated JRPG tool existed in the height of the snes era.

I vaguely recall some precursor stuff made even before that for the Famicom Disk System though I can't find it now,, so maybe I imagined it.
Yeah my first rpg marker was called rpg marker 95.
Basically every time in the past 15 years I hear about a notable game with decent visuals being made in RPG Maker I'm like "wow, there's another RPG Maker?"
