1: this is another tangential post about the hbomberguy video and I don't know a good tag for "everything under that umbrella" so if you want to filter this post out please let me know a tag before silencing, thank

2: the post

The big recurring theme here is that "it takes time to make GOOD videos, and one of the big motivations for rampant plagiarism (or lying) is to increase volume.

Thus, and based on other things I've seen around, I'd argue that any channel (or company) putting out a high volume of videos (or hours per day for these like 1 hour plus videos every week thing) should be, at least suspect for the quality of their information and at worst avoided on principle alone.

... Yes I'm saying you should stop watching LTT again JUST STO-

My personal default for PC gaming hardware industry news/benchmarks is Gamers Nexus

I know how the channel name might sound but I promise they're chill and professional

I'm sure some people have nothing better to do than defend a multi million dollar company that makes youtube videos but I'd think there's very few of them here on cohost.

I would not be surprised if some staff were here. If you somehow found this: hope things get better (or ideally have already gotten better) (also unionize)

It DOES and it sucked BEFORE all the shit that came out a few months back about how damn bad the company culture was and now that's very PUBLIC information including a lot of talk about just how bad all of the internal push for shoving videos out the door was. Now we have more examples of the kind of results the push for volume gets and, unless there was some big change I didn't hear about (haven't watched their stuff in years now so maybe!), they're still shoving out like a dozen videos a week across multiple channels.

Yes they have lots of staff, no it doesn't help for the volume they're targeting. And in their case it's basically been proven that the data they generate is suspect! At least they didn't just take someone else's I guess!

It does suck that in that case, it's an entire company full of people that got hired on to be employees in a system that I don't believe was designed to be a scam as it were, and lots of those people have gone on record to say "yeah it'd be nice if we didn't have to rush", but there's also some real big systemic problems there and until there's solid evidence that's been solved (really, yeet Linus and be able to have a diverse workforce that isn't being harassed) it's real easy to just cut that out of the diet IMO.

I'm sure this exact same argument can be applied to tons of other channels, this is just the one I have experience with watching for years (accepting it was junk food back then) and feeling the vibes go off.

I didn't even know they had one and it sounds Fucking Terrible

there is not enough "gaming news" to fill 5 minutes a week. There's useless bullshit people will talk about that keeps the latest AAA games in their mouths and a deluge of wonderful indie games that will never ever get the attention they deserve that no one will take the time to seek out and report on.

30 MINUTES LOL

Actually you can cover like 10 minutes a week purely reporting on dev studio layoffs lately, which is more important to know about (and hold grudges because of) than whatever the fuck they're talking about

god i miss old anandtech

i think i finally removed it from my rss because it's just fucking regurgitated press releases now

good on anand for cashing out when he did but damn

Ian Cutress did some good stuff for a while but decided to make a youtube channel instead. It hasn't got much traction (nor does he do reviews last I checked).

He's also willing to go on about new AI chips all the time though so he can get fucked.

in reply to @ADeerNamedMando's post:

Sure did! Gamer jesus steve nexus (I love mangling his name sorry) made a video about how their business practices were bad, and within a couple of days of that a former (very popular, lady) staff member who had quit came out and said that the workplace environment was hella toxic, dealt with harassment, etc. It was REAL bad.

I think they just made one video where everyone except for linus said they'd do better, no real apologies, and took a week off.

To be fair, the LTT stuff is the usual " " " normalized " " " corporate fuckery that we're all numb to and the target audiences of those channels just wanna see expensive computer part held by tiny canadian man with mouth open

The channels from guy er bomb h were basically actual con artists running whole ass cons, and were more individual than systemic.

Both are bad but one is, unfortunately, easier to overlook
