Is there really any other answer than the one, the only,
SPRINT
- an ICBM interceptor designed in the 1960s…
- designed to intercept missiles moving several miles a second in the last seconds of flight.
As a result, it:
- accelerated to Mach fucking 10 in 5 seconds
- that’s about a hundred gees!
- had an ablative body, for… obvious reasons
- was expected to have missions lasting 15 seconds at most, intercepting incoming warheads below twenty miles.
That’s not even mentioning HIBEX, an even more ludicrous proposal that accelerated at almost 400g and was expected to hit warheads within two seconds at 3km with a neutron bomb. It would have killed everything in a 5km radius of detonation because it was such a short range missile.
