Never started an account, knew twitter was shit from the very start, vindicated to see i was right and everyone sees it now.
Morose that it took this though... This is obviously bad, but conversely funny if Ron DeSnackpack loses anyway
i hope him and trump tear each other apart so that whoever comes out of it is damaged enough to lose the general
Gods, me too, and let me say it doesnt look good for either one from the outset, trump failing to pick a single senate winner in the midterms and Ron focusing on culture war nonsense the majority of his own voting base doesnt give a shit about
ah. seems like it may be time for us to return to Twitter then. one doesn't solve the issue of Republican weaponization of Twitter by running away from it, sorry to say. (EDIT: not sure we can return, mind you; we got a permanent suspension a while back. but we have devious ways and means.) ~Chara
this is entirely the opposite of what you should do. you can't stop where twitter is heading now because it's the CEO who owns the thing doing it
perhaps you are correct, but of all the people in the world I'm frightened of, Elon Musk and his fanclub aren't among them. I refuse to concede that we have NO power in this situation. ~Chara
Well i mean the takeaway is less about fear of him, more about that Elon is the one who decides who twitter as a company backs, and the more opposition from our ilk he seems to get, the more emboldened he is to escalate doing shitty things. If anything giving him more traffic may embolden him where ignoring and starving his failing company may discourage him
I disagree fundamentally with the premise that opposition always strengthens the Musk crowd. inept opposition, yes, that may make him stronger. but ALL opposition? I don't think so. ~Chara
Well im open to new things, what kind of opposition did you have in mind?
I'm still working on that! but let me suggest this anyway...do you think it's possible to cut the guts out of someone with the right words?
I don't mean "intellectually refuting" them, which achieves little. our enemies have learned how to proceed in spite of intellectual refutation.
what I mean is...crushing their spirits. taking all the wind out of them, destroying their confidence, making them doubt their command of the Twitter medium.
~Chara
Why yes, my best friend has been doing that on twitter, im not about to tell him what to do, or you because free will and such, he seems to be collecting a following of people helping him with it too
Good luck with that. You're just giving them what they want, because the online right thrives on conflict with the left. The only time I've ever seen them defeated has been in places where they're cut off from people to scream at, because then they're bored and lonely and feel impotent.
why would they feel impotent? they're friends with the worst people in the world, people with real power and influence. leaving them alone is leaving them in power. ~Chara
They don't want to hang out with each other because fascists are duplicitous and turn on each other on a dime. And furthermore, fascists are just unpleasant people to hang out with, even for other fascists.
What they want is to fight with you. That's what gets them going. That's what gives them a stage. A purpose.
I think they have plenty of purposes besides that. I don't want to prolong this dispute, but I am not convinced by your arguments. sorry! ~Chara
Enjoy inflating twitters monthly active users metrics, that'll show em
oh, I don't expect that the way we use Twitter, we'll get enough views to affect their "metrics" significantly. but getting views isn't the point—if you can say the right words to the right single person. ~Chara
oh, I do feel constrained to add one more remark: your entire argument boils down to: "if you interact with them, they win."
that's how THEY talk about themselves. it's like you believe them.
sorry again! I am too persistent, I know. ~Chara
Out of curiosity, what would you like me to do? Like okay, DeSantis is now backed by Musk. This is really nothing new, entrepreneurs and businessmen endorsing or putting faith into corrupt candidates has been a practise since practically forever. Candidates who are transphobic and/or willing to eradicate trans ppls are also nothing new.
What now? Boycott Twitter? I'm already kinda doing that. Ask other people to boycott Twitter? Highlight how destructive, exploitative, illegal and monopolistic Twitter is? How it's used to disinform the masses.
I'm not really mad at you because this is a technical necessity, and I understand this. All the people who care about this are here. To me, this is ultimately just... boring. This world runs on economic value and competition. Nothing beats free, and nothing beats convenience. Twitter is where everyone is. Twitter is where you'll grow your business. Twitter is where nuanced information can be trickled down into bite-sized algorithmic chunks for us to complain about.
I'm just really bored and unhopeful by this point. You've successfully convinced me to hate a politician again, hate Twitter again, and have provided yet another look into shady political bullshit. Everyone does that. The best people who do this are... surprise surprise, political campaigners. All those American campaign ads I see on YouTube and television... is just this, but way way more targeted and nowhere near as well-intentioned as you are. And I wanna reiterate that I'm not mad at you, I'm disappointed overall and it's more than the scope of this post.
I have more to say but I'm really tired. I just wanna tell you this cause I respect you, and I believe it would be a disservice if I were to just like, share and express support for no Twitter. I think this comment is a more meaningful measure of support. If you feel the need to block me tho, go for it. You should feel however you want to feel, and if I'm wrong to you, then that's fine. I accept it.
I mean, the post is meant to inform those here who are still on Twitter. It says that. It probably won't change anyone's mind about being there but it wouldn't be the first time I thought that before posting something and then had someone message me to confirm that it had. And for every person who goes out of their way to message me and tell me that there's almost certainly more who had their minds changed and didn't.
If you're not on twitter, I don't expect you to do anything, because you're already doing the thing.
