i think numerical ratings are a shitty way to interpret something as experiential as music. it's good for things like lawn mowers, but giving a song a numerical score is like giving the scent of an orange grove a numerical score.

i give "monster mash" a 4/5 when it's halloween and a 1/5 when it's christmas.

as a counterpoint maybe pitchfork should start reviewing smells. i personally want to know what their take on burnt almonds is. does it push the genre forward
