all those little red dots are signs that I've automated tracks to have a hard, sudden cut to full silence at some point in the song. i've always loved cohesive-sounding production (prince paul, pete rock, dan the automator, fat jon, nujabes) and i used to use a lot of reverb and delay effects to make a song feel -together-

over the years I started to think more about the dry snappiness of producers like madlib and j dilla, and so I now have this hybrid approach where my music is a wide, warm cohesive mass but it also suddenly stops and starts with hard edits to certain groups of sounds all over the place. not just hitting mute on the whole song, but certain sections and tracks. that's what necessitates this granular automation of track-by-track hard cuts.

The new thing rising up in my music consciously the last few years is def this, feel like I can't bear to leave something unedited. hard cuts reset and then re-excite the ears, make people take a breath.

still don't really know what to use cohost for but if you like this lmk

it's really cool peeking into your process and influences! I can definitely hear the dilla in your recent stuff. consider this a cosign that this is a neat post
