And today, it just stopped working correctly!
I haven't used it in a few weeks because I don't get a lot of time to actually mess with portable gaming stuff except when I'm at home, where all my other distractions are. So naturally, the battery was dead. This is normal, the Steam Deck standby time isn't what I would call very good. So as usual, I plugged it in, waited an hour or so, and went to power it on.
My RMA replacement should arrive today. Will be interesting to see what all has changed in a year
And it works! Hooray!
Thoughts:
- I'm pretty sure this is a new Deck, so sayeth the vent smell and general condition and packaging.
- The box no longer loudly announces that it contains a desired gaming electronic item. Instead, it's now a boring cardboard box with a lithium battery warning.
- The case no longer has the internal lift strap!!
- The case DOES still come with an egg bag for your charger. I didn't know this and as a result I now have two egg bags
- Some buttons feel way better. All four back buttons click no matter the direction you press and the Steam and . . . buttons are no longer mushy
- Sticks are grippier. We will see if they also serve as little bowls for skin flakes as time moves on like the others.
- My old Deck had the Not-Delta fan. This one has a Delta fan. People were not kidding about the fan noise.
-Just plonking the SSD from a different Steam Deck worked great, booted right up.
Verdict: The Deck continues to be a great little device and I hope it functions for longer this time.
