I think unlike many folk I'm gonna start intentionally calling it X to make a point that it's a different site now that works fundamentally differently

Did you know that if you don't have an account or aren't logged in then you can't read threads? The UI actually hides the fact that the post has additional followup, making it look like it stands alone

I'm of the opinion that regardless of economical incentives, using X is a choice to use a closed platform that does not allow open information flow, which i think is fundamentally a bad thing for society. I truly hope the economic incentives are worth it, because that's the only excuse that holds water if so.

I cannot blame an indie comic artist or a small game dev for using X if it is legitimately the only way to build an audience right now. However, as somebody who can't see 95% of the site, I'm going to have to take that value on good faith. To me, all i can see is harm to society. Good luck, sincerely.

in reply to @hellgnoll's post:

just today i tried checking to see if an artist i like had posted recently only to find out that if you aren't logged in, account pages don't display chronologically. it is very silly.

And that's if they even show you the profile at all. They only show that for accounts at a certain level of popularity; for less popular accounts, they hit you with the loginwall without being able to see even a single tweet.

I pretty much pop on to share links to something I've done elsewhere, and it gets, like, no attention anymore. Maybe it's good to some people or some kinds of posters, but really feels like a lot of the people who say they need it for whatever are people who have put no real effort into building community elsewhere.
