"That's great and all, but I don't know how this is gonna help get Trigger off the moon."

Obtuse stood back from her handiwork. She had spent the morning pruning the Blood Roses that lead along the path to the apartment buildings. They had a very pleasant scent despite their name; sweet, sort of like honey. They were named for their crimson petals and stems while the leaves were "stained" red. The flowers themselves were picky when considering the type of dirt they liked (loose, but not too loose to lose a lot of water). They liked the shade, but still needed to be in the heat that only the summer could bring. During the colder months, they either had to be brought inside or the ground needed to be cover over to keep the roots warm. (Old quilts worked quite well for this.) If the roots got too cold, the whole bush froze and died, which meant digging up the bush, composting the remains and starting over.

But Obtuse didn't mind. These bushes in particular made her feel safe.

They were the same bushes she and her family would hide in when Adventurers and Monsters would track down them down.

Too young to fight, their mother would hide with them in all manner of flower bushes to cover their scents while their father, a simple Human Adventurer, would cut down anyone with the idea of kidnapping three children to barter for a rare Boss's Charm. After the fight, their father used the flowers to find them and she remembered her father picking her up, kissing her forehead, smiling because his only daughter was safe.

That had been their childhood, hiding and waiting... until one day, all they did was wait. One day... her father put her down and never picked her up again.

She didn't want that for other children. She didn't want another little girl, Human or Monster, to never be safe in her father's arms again. So, she planted these flowers, hoping that their scent would be seen as a sign that the area was safe.

Though, she would never admit any of that. She was a Boss Monster and all she cared about was being intimidating, so of course, she picked the most intimidating looking flowers as a sign post to the recognized Safe Zone that served as a peaceful area for Humans and Monster to live together. She certainly wasn't going to admit that she had thought about adding brighter colored flowers to help cheer up any children that may be scared after a long and dangerous journey. No, this was all for intimidation's sake.

So, she took a quick glance around before bowing to the flowers and thanking them for everything they had done for her family. She had an image to maintain after all.
