Bringing this for Lemmy, and also to save for myself, as someone who often wants to post images in posts while allowing them to be click-able

So you might be aware of how to embed images in posts/comments. If you aren't, the Markdown Reference (?) button down there has some instructions, but I'll repeat them here

With " ![alt text](image url) ", you can insert images in your posts or comments, with the drawback that they are static. However, with some juryrigging, you can alter that to allow them to be opened in another tab at full size:

Use " [![alt text][1]][1] " instead, then follow up with

" [1]:image url "

Where you want the image to appear. You can keep adding numbers, 2, 3, 4 and listing them during your post. I'll use my own picrew avatar as example because I'm a narcissist.

If you hover over it, the alt text will display, and you can click to open full size on a different tab.

Yea, its weirdly a lot of work, and frankly I alwats need to reference it from somewhere else and copypast, but if one of your tech people know a better way, please don't hesitate to correct me or share it, that's just how I'm used to doing over Lemmy

Seems like there's some issues with posting/uploading images, I almost always use this instead of the default . I admit its very obtuse, but I also enjoy having more freedom and options in regards to displaying images.

  • official list of third-party cohost tools: userscripts, userstyles, browser extensions, etc
  • unofficial list of useful stuff for cohost: more customization, tools, and guides
  • tag your stuff! explore others' tags!
  • don't use the "cohost global feed" tag you might see, i invented it by accident (people took a joke seriously) and it turned out to be a bad thing (causes various technical and social problems, goes against the spirit of the site)
  • be kind to others
  • you can put CSS in posts using inline styles and various HTML tags that accept a style attribute
  • you can mix markdown and HTML. cohost's layout engine is a work of fucking art
  • cohost is community-supported and if you pay $5 (or more) a month for Cohost Plus, you get benefits like being able to upload 10-megabyte images. cohost doesn't automatically recompress or resize your images, which is lovely for things like grain-heavy photographs that get shrunken and murdered by JPEG recompression on other social media sites (especially bluesky and tumblr)
  • You Can Post Porno On Here. just make sure to mark it 18+ and use CWs for things that are likely to seriously bother someone.
  • check the settings pages for options including: silencing or muffling posts with given tags, silencing posts with particular CWs, or automatically expanding CW'd posts by default if you'd prefer to mainline that shit
  • you can embed all kinds of things that iframely supports by putting the URL on its own line, with an empty line above and below it. if you run into a tweet you can't embed (because it's NSFW or for other arbitrary twitter reasons), fxtwitter and vxtwitter both work
  • the website is run by a small group of queer communists. if you see any sort of transphobe, fascist, or nazi on here, report them and they will be ejected basically instantly
