Still thinking about my silly Lancer session yesterday. After some grueling combat and a first half filled with business uncertainty, suspicion and new job offers, we had 1 week in-game to prepare for the next venture, and the group decided to...take my very sheltered, young noble to her first game of bowling.
Can you use Take Someone Out as a bowling move? Show Off? Take Control? We absolutely fucking tried.
(We were also kicked out after my PC threw a gamer rage tantrum, but then they took her to McHarrison's and bought some nuggies :3)
In our last Lancer sitrep, the team got knocked down pretty badly. We won but it was a hard fought battle, even my own mech getting destroyed in the process. It was a moment of humbling, both in-character and out of character, as we realized we needed to get together, talk builds, and do a little respecing.
So after last night's narrative session with the fallout from that combat and our refreshed vigor for more scrapping (and a new License Level), I've made a decision
I'm sending in the Big Boy
We are going to get real close and personal here, folks
Had a pretty good session today! After a few weeks of inactivity the group managed to get together, we moved the plot forward somewhat and had some stellar character interactions! I've been very happy with how this all is turning out, and it has been an amazing GM-ing experience, all thanks to my loving players and their support.
I've been running a battle anime inspired PbtA called Friendship, Effort, Victory! taking place in a high school dedicated to hone the skills of their students in a world where intense conflicts are the key to solving any kind of dilemma or issue. Basically what I wanted was something that takes a little from animes where there is the presence of such a learning institution (Kill la Kill, Boku no Hero Academia, Soul Eater) but have the school as the main point instead of being the backdrop to a larger plot.
In today's episode (which is still basically our introduction, at the third session) we had a duel between two PCs, a 4th Year that has been tasked with guiding a class of new students (and is chronically incapable of standing out, to the point of not even this class realizing that he is a veteran) and a newcomer that actually really wanted to make their opponent look good and respected, in a kayfabe wrestling way. And they succeeded! (Sort of, thanks to some very bad rolls it was more like the veteran failed instead)
Meanwhile the perfect cinnamon roll innocent student was very taken aback by this sudden display of violence, and her tough looking but secretely sweet guardian head out and end up facing a group of bullies (whose leader already had made a negative impression on the perfect cinnamon roll in the first session) who were picking on another student. While their encounter went well without the need of physical combat - and the bullies' target was whisked away without them noticing - the tough looking guardian seems to have incurred the wrath of the group. Foreshadowing!
And they end meeting with another 4th Year, who is far less hostile than what they've seen so far (as the veterans graduation is going to rely on standing out while guiding their respective classes, they've decided that targetting the top student would make an excellent course conclusion, and that just happens to be our 4th Year PC), and I've apparently - and accidentally - made her "feel very autistic vibe" according to my players, and they loved it, so that's not going to be any pressure for me in the future encounters!
After a while without playing, we managed to get the whole group to do their thing separately, and now they're together and well aware of the dangers they're involved with, so I'm ecstatic for future sessions, and to hopefully put them through a (good natured) wringer!
