probably one of my weirdest gaming predilections is equipment and skill progression. And I mean like, not especifically just a character getting stronger or learning new things, but the whole feeling of like, they're somebody now? I absolutely love starting up with some loser dressed in rags, armed with a broken stick and slowly finding better clothes, better weapons, learning how to hit better. That's mostly why I played tons of free MMOs as a teen (and also WoW on pirate servers) and the occasional looter (frankly, only Grim Dawn manages to tick that addiction often). Assassin's Creed Odyssey also manages to quench that thirst, though that games just goes a bit too hard on the size and I'll probably never finish it (which isn't a bad thing, just a note to make)
Even better if they're a hated loser that gets to make a shitty community a bit better. Again, Grim Dawn is very good about that, starting on a prison that became a shelter where everyone is starving and afraid, and carefully turning it into a liveable resistance, until you move up.
Coincidentally, the point where I always lose interest in Grim Dawn is when the last sections of the plot kick in and you just move forward killing mobs and bosses after bosses.
Anyway, I'm feeling that need kicking and will probably look for either some random MMO or looting game
