now that the website is usable and I can post, I feel positively towards it. it's actually pretty slick; better UX than tumblr, twitter, mastodon, or wordpress. very pleasant to use. credit to the staff on that front.
with that said, for the short term (next week or two at least) I'm emphasizing my tumblr presence (aiun.tumblr.com) among off-twitter places for the following reasons:
- I know how to use and enjoy tumblr already - it's been there the whole time and has a living and proven niche, and i know there is plenty of enjoyable content there and how to find it. with cohost these things are not yet clear
- there have been some issues - massive outages this evening, TOS issues (which they ARE working on) - that just seem like young-website stuff; those will probably shake out soon but it's still in flux right now
with that said, these considerations are quite likely to change, and I am very intrigued by the possibilities here in the medium and long term, especially as more accounts get approved and more people are able to interact fully with the site.
