Just a nobody who likes RPGs

Recently finished my first play through of Scarlet Grace, it was pretty fun.

My MC was Leonard, who from what I understand is probably the worst option for a first playthrough. Partly due to his main quest being like Lute in SaGa Frontier in how you can blitz through it way too easily if you go directly to the places they tell you to go, and partly due to how things that would be big quest deals in any other characters quest are just weird random occurrences that you'll get zero explanation about, though it is funny to see what is apparently a big goal for another character be treated like a gross bug that Lissa demands Leonard beat up any time it shows up. While in the end I did enjoy my time with Leonard, the lack of any attachment to wandering around and dealing with the other problems did make me lose interest in checking them out, but that just means I can check them out in other playthroughs so it's not a big deal.

The battle system is great, once you get a decent grasp of it you start getting to feel like a genius as you setup the turn order to enable silly Unite Attacks. To explain Unite Attacks, they're a big combo attack that happens when an enemy dies in between the actions of two of your characters, they'll include everyone of your characters that are adjacent to these, and on top of dealing big damage they reduce the BP cost of Techs during the next round. Enemies can also take advantage of Unite Attacks, and Unite Attacks also activate if a character dies and their action is between two of their allies. So a decent part of the combat is getting the turn order setup to enable Unite Attacks, and also to go with this bosses usually have or can summon enemies. I didn't play with magic too much in my playthrough so I don't actually know how well that stuff works, but once again I can just save that for a future playthrough.

The worst stuff I can say is I probably should've paced it out better, I was getting a bit burnt out at the end but the game gives you pretty clear points where you can take a break and put the game down such as whenever you go to a new area. So that's more on me than the game. I was just too much in a rush to clear up my schedule for a game releasing this week sadly. Also I might've grinded a bit too much last week, I wanted to get some Roles on characters (Think of it as an equipable you get for having learned certain techs) and that might've been a bit overkill since looking at the NG+ options it seems intended for them to be something you work on learning about and unlocking over multiple playthroughs rather than being something you try to sit down and grind out. Oops.

Overall like I said earlier it's fun, and if you're curious about SaGa games it definitely feels like a good choice. Maybe not best since SaGa Frontier is easily accessible now, but still a good choice.
