I'd never been to Las Vegas before and I just spent a week there with @FlannelKat. It's actually the first time we've traveled as tourists (instead of, say, traveling to GDQ or a pinball tournament) since we got married. We had a fun time and I have a lot of things to react to:
- everything is fake and transactional but you know that going in
- a very large bathtub is a cool thing to have in a hotel room
- wow it turns out that megacorporations running the city doesn't lead to very good urban planning, who would have guessed. both car and pedestrian traffic were a nightmare. There's a monorail but it costs $6 and doesn't go to useful places
- you want to see the different casinos for their cool unique themes, but also apparently they've been downplaying the themes for the last decade and re-theming as "shiny place that you can gamble". but New York New York is still on point, and Luxor more literally so
- we gambled and knew when to quit and had a good time with it!
- shows are fun
- of all the sins you can indulge, probably the most effective one is gluttony. We went to the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesar's Palace and holy shit
- Omega Mart by Meow Wolf is the single coolest place in the city
- do not go to Vegas to play pinball
