Magic item: Truly Immovable Rod. This item is indistinguishable from an ordinary Immovable Rod. When activated, the rod becomes stuck in space and cannot be moved by anything. This is true for all observers across all inertial frames of reference, meaning that your spatial relationship to the rod can never change. The gradual distortion of space required for this to be the case causes 1d4 psychic damage to all observers, per round since the rod was activated, each round. Any being touching the rod takes 2d8 force damage, per round, each round.

If the rod's operator dies, the rod deactivates and falls to the ground immediately. It does so in every place where someone can see it, meaning that a new rod is created for every observer who could see the rod when it was activated. All copies but one randomly-chosen rod are ordinary Immovable Rods. This is in fact how new Immovable Rods are created.

immovable rod factory

  1. get a Truly Immovable Rod
  2. get a bunch of people together including someone who can cast Revivify
  3. everyone (except the Revivify caster) looks at the Truly Immovable Rod and someone activates it
  4. everyone takes a step back
  5. kill whoever activated the rod
  6. Revivify them. If needed, heal them so they can survive at least one round of looking at an active Truly Immovable Rod. (iirc taking 1d4 psychic damage is more likely to knock you out than kill you, so depending on local work safety regulations, your personal ethical framework, and how many slots are available for Revivify, this may be acceptable)
  7. Revivifier looks away
  8. test all rods; repeat from 4. When the Revivify caster runs out of slots to cast Revivify with, put the untested rods in a separate bin and continue the next day.
  9. Revivify costs 300gp. For the cost of Revivify (and a lot of psychic damage) you get as many rods as you have or willing to look at them, minus one (the one that remains Truly Immovable). Sell Immovable Rods at an appropriate price point.
