I've been slowly paring this back over on facebook's hell site. Unfollowing every page, leaving every group, ignoring every new invite or request, and pruning all the 'friend of a friend of a friend' names that pop up on the wall. It's pretty cathartic, honestly.

Sure, I'd love to have 500 frenz. I would truly absolutely love to know and be part of the life of 500 friendly people who all live wildly different lives. But, even if we agree that Dunbar's Number is probably horseshit, I can't have 500 frenz. Not on facebook. Not online.

500 frenz is a community. It's a world of things happening outside, in big open spaces full of things. 500 frenz are living glorious full-color lives interdependent on their own lists of 500 frenz, and it's just so great that our lists overlap at all. 500 frenz is something you could work with. It's something we could all work with.

I hope that I have 500 frenz someday, but it's not happening on facebook. On facebook I'm just hoping some of these 500 frenz will join cohost if I mention it enough. You can have some frenz on the internet. Just not 500 of them. And they need a big open space to live in.
