We were talking about our surgeries, and I mentioned how I only ever had a vasectomy. One of my brothers said they took one of my nuts away, and I followed up with "turns out the doctor was a squirrel. I didn't realize it until after the procedure and then I saw his tail and he ran away". It was a good laugh, and there were lots of good times had yesterday :)
I moved away from the family (my siblings and my uncle, our parents died young in the 90s) in 2000 to live with my girlfriend, and I came back maybe once or twice (once in 2009 or 2010 to pick up my younger brother's piano he gave me) but my sister wasn't there at the time(s) I went. It's more like 14-15 years for my older brother, 20 for my older sister, and maybe 7+ since I've seen my younger brother?
We've all been through our share of hardships, and I'm happy we could get together again. I have a very strong family network (my father had like 10 or 11 siblings? and almost all of them have families that now have families too), although I mostly kept to myself outside of a one or two aunts and uncles, and some cousins.
The main reason we've been apart for so long is distance. I grew up in Brooklyn NY, moved to Jersey, and now I live in Pennsylvania. My younger brother lives in California, while my oldest siblings are still in parts of Brooklyn.
