I have many thoughts, and also other media that Id recommend that is similar to this and evokes similar feelings . . .

So,, I tore my hands to shreds watching this, especially the back half of the film. That's not something I can say about a lot of horror, and I'm a proponent for "horror doesn't need to aspire to be scary". Some horror definitely loses its bite in its marketing; describing how its the SCARIEST MOVIE EVER etc. But this is definitely a skin-crawling experience, even more so if you're the kind of kid who had nightmares about being in your own house but its weird and different and the adults cant help you or just don't care enough to.

I wanted this to be a recommended viewing, so I watched it by myself, past midnight in the dark. Which is defs the way to watch it, any other context and it would become too hard to focus and be absorbed in whats presented; either by watching it in daylight, watching it with other ppl or both. Although for the last minute or so I did give up and turn the lights on, if you know you know.

As for media this film reminds me of and evokes similar feelings; ; ;

Kitty Horrorshow, ANATOMY

A very different take on, the house as horror, betraying the safety of the home. But evoking the same emotions. The dread, the unraveling of the Unknown. Absolutely formative in my taste in horror, defs a must play (its quite short and very affordable). A much more human story than the cold inhuman distance of Skinamarink. I also made a fanzine on ANATOMY if that's more your speed but also please give Kitty Horrorshow your money, she deserves it

Gregor Schneider

An artist who's work I remember exists every couple of years when I'm idly thinking about architectural horror. Not necessarily horror in the artists eyes iirc but it defs evokes those feelings. I admittedly don't know much about his artistic intent, but his creations are these very real architectural structures that participants can walk through themselves, which I imagine feels much more cathartic than watching footage of it but obvs take what you can get.

I DID however see some info recently that gave light to one of his major works; where he 'tours' his childhood home as he constructs and tears it down every time it needs to be transported around the world. Which funnily enough has a Skinamarink connection where Kyle Edward Ball, the director; shot the movie in his childhood home.
