If the level is balanced for a player that finds all the secret areas, the player that doesn't find any will be underpowered and struggle. If the level is balanced for not finding any secret areas, the exploration inclined player will become too powerful.
Solution: secret areas don't have any resources to help the player, just pictures of cute girls and cool computers
