The stereotype of the closeted homophobic evangelical is inherently a stereotype about gay individuals and essentially engages in victim blaming by suggesting that gay people are responsible for oppressing themselves.

I feel this is more a reflection on the evil of authoritarian rhetoric and how to destroy the minds, bodies, and soul of individuals who don't produce maximum efficiency towards their clause.

Sure, gay people do oppress themselves in some ways, just like how all oppressed people aid in their own oppression in some fashion. Often as a defense mechanism to protect themselves and those they love. But i don't think having anesthetic filter over it makes that the central point.
