I think it's crazy to me that we share the planet with giant pyrosomes and they're barely discussed or acknowledged
I am, unfortunately, unable to identify the original source for this image, which has been circulating the Internet without credit for at least a decade.

You know what's extra fascinating about this? Pyrosomes are tunicates, which means they're chordates. They're just outside the vertebrate clade, essentially our cousins. You are more closely related to a pyrosome than about 95% of animal species on earth.
even the ordinary ones are like...okay, let's swim around for a little bit and then settle down to filter-feed for the rest of our lives. brain? who needs that? and there are so many weird outliers in that category.
