Okay, so I don't have a ton of hope for this. BUT. Y'all are a bunch of weirdo nerds, so maybe you all can get this in front of someone who can help.
The short version: I'm trying to find someone (preferably a cool queer person) who knows about metalworking and/or knife making who can answer some questions and help point me in the right direction on a thing.
The long version:
Many years ago my grandfather (was was a machinist) made knives for me and my brother. The one he gave me is absolutely gorgeous and is one of the few things my grandfather ever gave me. It has extreme sentimental value to me.
But there's a problem.
Because it has my deadname etched into the blade.
I treasure this knife dearly and I wouldn't get rid of it for the world, but that name is a really painful reminder of...well, a lot of things. A person I could never be. A childhood I never got to fully live. And the fact that my grandfather didn't live long enough to ever really get to know the real me. Just to name a few.
I want to remove the name from the knife. But I don't know if it's possible to do so without permanently damaging it. I don't really even know where to start asking questions about how to do this kind of thing or finding someone who I could pay to do it for me safely.
So I'm hoping one of you nerds can help. Or at least find someone who can. Preferably a cool queer person who can maybe understand what this means to me.
