Baund Doc - Zeta Gundam (1985)

Designed By: Makoto Kobayashi (Draft), Kazumi Fujita (Cleanup)
Fourth Image By: Kazuhisa Kondo

Baund Doc! One of my favorite weird Zeta suits, the really tall, really big, really funny looking friend. Wanted to include all the color variants, including the unused Jerid one in the first image, which comes up even in old books and promo art for the show, so they seemingly changed it to him getting Rosamia's (third image) decently late in production? Also while we don't have a good diagram of it, the way it transforms is also very goofy, never really thought about it until I got the HGUC but.... basically, it just turns the upper body 90 degree clockwise, scooches into itself by reaching the large claw onto its waist, tucking the body into the skirt, and then hides its head and body using the shield which itself has a monoeye. Also the shield is where its built in mega particle cannon is located.

Anyway, while I like the goofiness of the show design, Kobayashi's original design and Kondo's design displayed above are far less goofy and a lot weirder, I like them as well. Kondo's in particular I have a lot of fondness for, lots of antennae, weird fingers, lots of propellant tanks, wires, etc. Kind of fun to imagine it in the bright colors of the various friends.

Of course, me being me and me being the monochrome liker, Gates' unit is still my fav. I can't argue with grey on grey I just tend to like how that looks!
