In addition to the blurb above, I'm a recovering mathematician, Jewish, and autistic as fuck--those didn't alliterate
Sometimes I write poems, mostly in English and Spanish
I feel weird putting my age in my bio but I am in fact a Grown Up if you were worried

When I read Redwall I didn’t realize they were so tiny even compared to the mice
similarly, I forget how small mice are compared to rats! then when I see mice I'm just like "oh, a tiny round baby, wow"
I always assumed the critters were size averaged with each other, because none of their interactions implied such huge differences. With the exception of Badgers being big enough to pull wagons.
After the first book where there was a horse(!?) and all the rats arrived in a big hay cart, I think Jacques very consciously chose to never try and nail down the size of anything compared to anything else.
Yeah, it's a whole sequence at the start where the rats are in the hay cart, and one of them tries to bite the horse to make it run faster, but winds up falling under a wheel. The whole thing implies that the rats are rat-sized, and it's a weird anomaly in the books.
