Many of the woes of today's educational system primarily stem from how we effectively view and treat children as property, and how our language and sociopolitical situation encourage it. I feel there would not be as much friction between parents and educational institutions if parents were not socially conditioned to view their children as extensions of themselves and their legacy. We also need communal child rearing, not to isolate families in suburban homes.

the status quo ties into the idea of parental rights which IMO are scant if they exist at all. it's the kids who have rights; parents have custodial duty, which comes with some discretionary leeway but that's only proxy agency. framing it as parental rights plays into the idea of children as property.
