The following is an excerpt from Rabbi Shmuel ben Hershel HaLevi's classic commentary on State and Revolution, published in the year 6107 (2347 CE).
It is commonly but incorrectly assumed that the "Marx" referred to frequently in this text is a specific individual, possibly a great scholar of the previous generation. In fact, this word is Aramaic in origin. It comes from the root ר־ח־ץ, meaning "trust". A מרחץ (markhets) is one who trusts, and by extension one who is willing to share wealth in common, and the word was corrupted when transliterated to HaRov Vladimir ben Ilya's native Russion. Thus when the Ravbai speaks of "Marx's teachings", he means "the precepts of those who advocate the sharing of wealth".
