I literally just grabbed a bunch of old art, poorly tiled them them into one image, embedded it in an svg file and then animated some filter and blending styles to make it slowly change over a very long time. If I can remember correctly the most difficult part was keeping it below the file size limits, and also figuring out how to get away with specifying the image's data url only once.
I wish other sites supported uploading svgs for profile pictures or banners, or hell even animated webp files (gifs don't support partial transparency). This isn't something that you can do anywhere else (excluding a personal site) and I am going to miss it.
