You know how you can pluck fulgurbugs off the back of a toppled Zinogre? Apparently the game counts those as carves for the purpose of rolling to get afflicted dire horns, which means you can get extras by harvesting fulgurbugs! I don't know if this translates to mining afflicted monster bones from Basarios's back, but I'll report back if I find out.
