my recommendation is to go create a new private page called @[username]-media and upload your media as regular posts over there, then you can copy the uploaded URL and use it however in your post. that way you don't have various media posts clogging up your drafts, you have pagination, etc. you can even tag your media uploads if you wanna go back and find something.
or make a second page for uploads if you don't wanna clog up your drafts!
i've just been deleting the draft after a while and hoping for the best.
for extra security, i've been backing the image up using archive.org and using that
there were some orphaned images lost from the cdn when they migrated providers, hence some of us switching to this method :p
i think some of the images for the qou dressup game are hosted on imgur because i didn't wanna have to keep uploading them 4 at a time F
o a forum i used to post on a long time ago had a similar problem (but with some people's school internets)
one of the popular extensions for that forum mirrored imgur images through some third party proxy but i dont recall what it was called sadly
Oh! I hadn't thought of that! That sounds easier than, dunno, serving them out of a Backblaze b2 bucket.
so far i've had images persist just fine when i delete the draft containing them. i assume if this ever becomes a problem the staff could start deleting ones that don't have any links in posts pointing to them
i believe someone on staff said they might start pruning deleted attachments at some point but i may have dreamt that. i was gonna reach out for clarification on a few things (including that) because once there’s a public API i was gonna write a tool for reuploading orphaned attachments used in posts
