Early video games could be frightening in their own humble ways. Sinistar (BEWARE, I LIVE!) and Robotron 2084 (a jolly tale about the death of the human race by its own inventions) left me a little unnerved. Similarly, my brother wasn't much fond of the murderous food items chasing after you in Burgertime. The food chain does not go in that direction, dang it!
The lack of edge in Balloon Fight always left me a little resentful. You've got white-knuckle aerial combat with vultures and dinosaurs, and then you've got... chubby guys riding balloons. It's like the Weenie Hut Jr. version of Joust.
Oh yes, Sinistar's so intimidating!
I hadn't thought about Balloon Fight in that way before but you're right XD
