  4. i cannot remember if "Pero" is simply a play on "Perrault" or if it's written identically to "Perrault" in Japanese, making the name one of those common pre-Wikipedia translation errors

Looks like Perrault is 「ペロー」, with an extended last syllable, and Pero the cat is 「ペロ」. So I think it is meant to be a reference but not exactly that name.
