yeah, one thing I've noticed is that a lot of the characters (or at least utena and anthy?) seem really like... i don't know, i guess resigned? like i dont want to necessarily say "passive" bc we see utena taking action but neither of them feels like they're really making choices, if that makes any sense? im curious to see how this develops, esp since its not clear to me rn whether its a deliberate theme or just a quirk of the writing
also wrt your last point, yeah i was surprised to hear utena saying in the preview that she would throw the match? i have to assume that we're going to get some kind of lore dump next ep and she'll decide she doesn't actually want to participate in whatever weird fucked up social structure the student council has going on, hence her deciding to throw the match. im predicting that ultimately there will be some sort of moral quandary to force her to move past her reservations and continue participating in order to prevent some kind of harm (probably to anthy!)
yeah, honestly i'd also be having second thoughts about participating in a fucked-up social structure where someone threatened to literally kill me with a literal sword, i guess we'll get to see more soon about where they're coming from and what her qualms are
