It's getting pretty hot where I live, so for today's stream I'm gonna (virtually) escape to where it's much cooler, the lofty mountain ranges of the Alps. Rock Climbing: Mitouhou e no Chousen: Alps-hen (ロッククライミング 未踏峰への挑戦 アルプス編) is a very strange climbing game that I've been very curious about for a long time. It looks weird and controls weird as well; when you see how the character moves you'll understand why I like to call it "Earnest Evans goes mountain climbing". Thankfully I have the manual, and the game itself has plenty of tutorials, so I should be able to puzzle it out, given time and effort.
Another fun aspect adding to the strangeness of this game: It doesn't work in most modern emulators, at least last time I checked. Even the MiSTer FPGA supposedly needs special settings to run it. I had success running it in an old emulator called "psxfin", and I didn't notice any issues, at least for the little bit I played.
The mountain is calling, and I'll answer its call later today, on twitch.tv/mooware at 20:00 Central European / 18:00 UTC / 2pm US Eastern time.
