I'm surprised that enthusiasts don't bring up Princess Crown more often. You might recognize director George Kamitani's style in this Sega Saturn side-scrolling role-playing game. Despite the exquisite art and animation receiving critical acclaim, the later entry was a commercial failure, leading to Kamitani becoming a black sheep.
It would be almost a decade before the developer scraped together another game, which was just working up to his own big project. That project? Odin Sphere. Vanillaware's huge success would restore relations with Sega and Atlus, leading to a port on PlayStation Portable. Though the West has never acknowledged the game, it was even a pre-order incentive for another of the developer's classics. None other than 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Anytime you wanna release that, imma play it 🙏
