In honor of the 2024 Paris Olympics starting today, and in response to Paris' horrific butchering of one of the best international communication aides in graphic design history, here's my all-time favorite segment from an opening ceremony: the Tokyo 2020 pictogram tribute
"we decided to get rid of the pictograms because they were old-fashioned, and replaced them with designs more like a coat-of-arms. You know, coats-of-arms, the hot new thing with the youth of today. Like in that game of thrones thing"
