Re; last rebug: I passed a comment about Frank Sinatra's "My Way"
I'm respectful, but not particularly reverent, of Sinatra and what his music means to people. The same goes for Final Fantasy as a whole -- the games, the music, the franchise. They're both not for me, and it's weird to think that those two would ever intersect in a meaningful way. But believe me when I tell you that since it first dropped, not a day has gone by that I don't think about the final trailer for Strangers of Paradise.
Not only is it just a really great, old-fashioned, classic Japanese media trailer in the way it condenses the plot, repeats key phrases, and pre-establishes character bits. The thematic wordplay is off the charts with absolutely no room for subtlety, almost Kojima-like in that respect. And I'm particularly responsive to characters pleading to and calling out for edgy protagonists named Jack.
But there's more to it.
I'm a sucker for a well-used needle drop.
I'm a huge sucker for audio-visual synthesis.1
I'm a powerless, blubbering blob for things like this:
What's it say when even a mellowed former FF hater and media cynic like me can be humbled at just the right combination of sight, sound and memory? MS Paint Garfield face "You are not immune to games marketing" probably. Also you're damn right that's the most replayed bit.
