In case you've not seen it already on Twitter or Discord, submissions are now open for the anti-Hogwarts Legacy bundle I talked about organizing almost a literal year ago. More details can be found at the link below, but in short:

  • wizard/magic themed media (predominately videogame focused, but ttrpgs, zines, music, and other media can also be submitted)
  • will run from 02/10-02/24
  • $60 main bundle with a $10 sister bundle (you can opt into the cheaper bundle separately)
  • all proceeds split evenly between creators (if for some reason you cannot receive payments but still want to be part of the bundle, you can opt to wave your portion)

If you have any questions feel free to comment on this post, DM me on Discord/Twitter, or email contact@kritiqal.com.

i should be writing my GOTY post on here but i am instead playing new games

ADACA's pretty rad. I'm not very far in but it has me thinking about how I'm old enough that I'm playing games inspired from the ones I played when growing up, and that that's much more interesting than playing a sequel to said original games.

Like, do I want Half-Life 2: Episode Three? Half-Life 3? Probably. But I'm definitely more interested in, like, an entirely new take from new people and perspectives who want to tackle different subject matter or form ideas that would be written off in a Proper Sequel because there's canon to adhere to or gameplay restrictions or etc. etc.

Anyway, here's a link. There's a demo to find out if it's your thing or not!

Don't worry, I got you! (you see, when I posted a draft of these on Twitter a few months ago I made the mistake of showing it without having a link to share for people to actually get it. But no longer!)

Note: I also uploaded each of the stickers as a separate work, but thanks to the way RedBubble's pricing works, you may as well buy the whole set on a sheet for the same price and give any of the ones that don't apply to you to that one friend of yours who will love it.

(The only workaround I can think of is to add bonus stickers or make each single sticker design give you a three-pack, which I might set up later?)

Thinking about what sort of article to post for the Grand gaming.moe Revival, and right now I am thinking it's going to be about the lost world of fighting game image albums, some of the greatest relics of the 90s kakuge boom in Japan. My first real exposure to image albums came through my youthful Virtua Fighter fandom and Virtua Fighter 2: Dancing Shadows, an album which was used as the basis for both the Saturn VF character CG portrait discs and the legendarily bizarre Virtua Fighter Costomize Clip OVA. It's basically the ultimate example of an image album in my mind: lyrics and arrangements that are cheesy but strangely intense with a sound that is undeniably mid-90s Japanese music.

My favorite image album, however, is the lesser-known follow-up: Virtua Fighter 3 On the Vocal. Unlike Dancing Shadows, which was a bunch of original tracks, VF3OtV is all music from the game itself, but slightly arranged and with lyrics added. And Takenobu Mitsuyoshi sings all of it. It's rad as hell and want more people to hear it.

Anyway, if any of you fine folks have weird fighting game image albums to recommend for a future piece send some links my way~
