@meimeimeixie did something like this a few days back and we wanted to add some job lore to Shura!
Lore under the cut!
Part 1: The Canon Jobs
Paladin
From a young age, Shura was trained in the blade by her parents - her swordfighting style bore a strong resemblance to that of the Paladins of Ul'dah, but she actively refused to wield a shield, preferring to block with her arm armor.
After establishing the Kuroyanagi Clan proper in Ul'dah, she gave up her short sword...but occasionally she'll pull it out again whenever Liese wants to put on one of her stage shows in Ishgard.
When we picked up XIV again in 2022, we accidentally picked Gladiator to start, forgetting it was a tank class! Whoops! We ended up getting a nice crash course in tanking real quick. At this point, it's sadly the only tank class we haven't gotten to 80 yet. But at the same time it was ultimately a stepping stone towards...
Gunbreaker
In the midst of her travels, Shura came across a strange Hrothgar man...in exchange for her saving his life, he offered to teach her the ways of the Gunblade. It ended up being a valuable skill - to this day, the gunblade is still a frequent part of her arsenal. Of course, because of circumstances that will be outlined below, the gunblade briefly became harder for her to use, and required special modifications...
Our main tank class, and our first DoW class that we ever got to 90! It's still our go-to, even if we're currently levelling DRK right now. Sadly it's also the class that caused the Big Blunder that gave us a permanent Tanxiety debuff...
Machinist
After becoming soul bonded to the spirit of the Allagan scholar Aym, Shura's aether manipulation got a bit messed up - and on top of that, she was chased out of Ul'dah by the Braas Blades, who had been paid off by the Rubinrot Trading Company.
Luckily on both fronts, a solution was dumped in front of her: after being given safety by Countess Liese de Ashelotte in Ishgard, she was offered employment at the Skysteel Manufactory, which House Ashelotte had a stake in. There, she met Countess Liese 's wife Seira, who constructed Shura a weapon that would work with her aether problems - a rifle with a special device installed that took aether from the environment and recycled it into cartridges of ammunition. The "aetheroelectric converter" was later reused for the Manufactory's gunblade designs as well.
Despite only having one working eye, Shura is a hell of a crack shot with the rifle, explaining why it's her go-to in most situations.
Our favorite class in XIV! And yeah, it tends to be our default for dealing with roulettes, or doing trials. We've wanted to play it ever since watching a video on pre-Shadowbringers MCH a long time ago, and we love it to death. BUFF IT EVEN MORE CBU3
(Part 2 to come later!)
