This is a closely guarded secret, but when you're an author, you can write whatever you want.
Anything that happens in the story is because you want it to. You control everything. So if you try to use excuses like "well, it wouldn't make sense", or "realistically it needs to be like this", the actual truth is that you don't want to do it another way.
You make the rules. You could do it, but you don't want to. There's no other reason.*
